I CREATED THE CREATIVES BUSINESS COLLECTIVE BECAUSE I'VE SPENT YEARS BUILDING MY BUSINESS ALONE. I WENT SEARCHING FOR ANSWERS ABOUT HOW TO RUN A SUCCESSFUL ART BUSINESS AND THEY WERE HIDDEN UNDER PILES OF BUSINESS ADVICE THAT SIMPLY WASN'T APPLICABLE TO ARTISTS OR MY QUESTIONS WENT UNANSWERED.

I started my little baby art business while working full-time in a completely different career. I decided to turn my hobby and lifelong passion into my new career after several years of ‘dipping my toe in the water’... AKA selling to family + friends and participating in small, local exhibitions (and taking low quality photos to remember them, esh!)
I eventually transitioned to part-time work, part-time business owner, but wedding + family photography paid most of my business bills at that time. Even after going full-time into my art business, photography still brought in most of my business revenue for the first year or two. I started making a real profit from selling my art in year five.
As I was building and growing my art business,
I didn’t have connections or a community within the art world. I didn’t have experience in business or marketing or a degree in the arts. I didn’t have anywhere to turn for answers to my questions or guidance along the way.
I didn’t have a clue!
After years of searching and scraping my way along, I now have a network of artist friends and fellow business owners. I have people to talk business with and seek advice from when I feel stuck or unsure. I’ve created a foundational knowledge base of how to run my art business through trial and error, educational opportunities, diligence, coaching, and nearly a decade of experience.
I could have gotten to where I am now so much faster
if I’d had relationships with other artists who had built similar businesses. The journey would have been considerably easier if I had a place to turn when I had questions. My business building experience could have been less stressful if I’d had access to resources developed specifically to help artists and creatives.

When I decided to go full-time with my business, I still didn’t know what I was doing, but I was determined to figure it out. I reached out to fellow artists that I’d met at different events to ask them all the questions. I came to meetings with my legal pad list of questions and was met with crickets. These other artists, who were several years into running their art businesses, didn’t have answers to the technical business questions that I was asking. The lack of answers led me down many, many years of endless research – much of which simply wasn’t applicable to an art business.
